1I rake the leaves that fallfrom the tree of knowledge.
2Once, in a darkness so deep,I set the page on firefor light enough to read.
3I knew a girl who sworethe rusted tailpipeskittering down the road,sparks and blue smoke,was the finger of Godscratching once moreagainst this world's hard stone.
4Hushed by the hieroglyphlimned upon the table,we saw each other seethe clear dewy tracesof interlacing rings. [End Page 95]
