However, this is a thriving, vigorous culture, and 'Letters in Canada' has, accordingly, increased substantially in size over the years. This growth has been accompanied by problems arising from the conflict between the dates on which we ask contributors to the Summer issue to submit their copy and the pressures on them (and the editors!) at the end of the academic year. Not for nothing (as a certain Marxist rhetoric liked to say) has the appearance of 'Letters in Canada' become chronically delayed until the Fall. We have decided to ratify this defacto autumnal appearance. As a result, this volume of UTQ - and only this volume - will be without an issue of 'Letters in Canada.' It will comprise, instead, four issues devoted to articles and reviews. Beginning with Volume 56, we will move to the new format: with a Fall issue, 'Letters in Canada 1985,' and three issues of articles and reviews. We hope that this will not only improve 'Letters in Canada,' by making life easier for contributors and editors, but will permit readers of UTQ to receive their copy of 'Letters in Canada' in season.
