We are pleased to publish two issues commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. We are particularly grateful to the contributors to these issues for making notable persons come to life and historical trends and patterns achieve vital meanings. Joseph P. Chinnici, O.F.M., is President of the Franciscan School of Theology, Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, California. Tricia T. Pyne is director of the Associated Archives of St. Mary's Seminary and University, Baltimore, Maryland. Seth Smith is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. Robert F. Trisco, professor emeritus of church history in the Catholic University of America, long-time editor of the Catholic Historical Review, is acting editor, while the current editor, Nelson Minnich, is on sabbatical leave. Charles J. T. Talar is professor of Systematic Theology, Graduate School of Theology, St. Mary's Seminary, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas. François Weiser is a doctoral candidate at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE), Paris, and a member of the Groupe Sociétés, Religions, Laïcités (GSRL), a research center depending both on the EPHE and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).
