In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • Response to “Review of Historical Dictionary of Children’s Literature” Bookbird 50.1 (January 2012) by Bridget Carrington
  • Emer O’Sullivan

[Original Article]

  1. 1. The review states that in the case of the Marsh award “the Appendix (283) names merely names (sic) the books that have won it, and not the original author or the translator”. This is factually inaccurate: on p. 283–4 of the dictionary, the list of Marsh Awards first gives the name of the translator, then the title of the book, then the name of the author.

  2. 2. It also states, when writing about the Carnegie Medal, “It must also be noted that neither are all the recipients of that and the other awards noted in the Appendix”—which is also innacurate—all the recipients of all the major awards are listed in the Appendix (275–289).

  3. 3. The reviewer finishes with a comment on “the latest (2008) information”—but the appendix and bibliography include material published in 2010.

Bridget carrington chose not to rebut. [End Page 101]
