Annual Meeting Sponsorship

Do you have a fondness for a particular session or banquet at the Annual Meeting? Are you presenting at this year’s meeting? Show your support for TSHA and receive recognition for yourself or your organization by becoming an Annual Meeting sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities, ranging from $500 to $25,000 are available now.

Session sponsors receive two complimentary meeting registrations and recognition on the inside cover and session listing of the TSHA Annual Meeting Program, on the TSHA website, in the session at the meeting, and in the Association’s quarterly newsletter, Riding Line. Deluxe session sponsorships ($750) provide complimentary coffee service for the session’s attendees in addition to the benefits listed above. Fellows Nominations

The bylaws of the Association provide that “members who show, by published work, special aptitude for historical investigation may become Fellows. In any given year the number of Fellows elected, if any, shall be within the sole discretion of the Board of Directors; however, at no time shall there be more than three persons elected as Fellows of the Association each year.” The Fellows Committee is charged with the task of seeking qualified candidates but also invites nominations from Association members. The committee is not obligated to appoint any new Fellows if the nominees do not meet the requirements.

New Fellows will be announced and presented a certificate at the Association’s annual meeting. Fellows elected by the current committee will be honored at the annual meeting in March 2013. Nominations for Fellows to be honored in 2013 should be sent to the TSHA office by December 31, 2012. Nominations should be mailed to: Fellows Committee, Texas State Historical Association, 1155 Union Circle #311580, Denton, TX 76203-5017. Questions may be directed to Susan Manuel at

Call for Proposals

The Texas State Historical Association will hold its 118th annual meeting, March 6–8, 2014, in San Antonio, and the program committee is now calling for proposals for sessions and papers to be presented at the meeting. Papers on all aspects of Texas history are welcome.

A complete session proposal must include the following:

  1. a. session title

  2. b. complete name, address, phone number, a one-page vita, and institutional [End Page 184] affiliation (or hometown, in the case of lay historians) of the session chairman, paper presenters (either two or three), and commentator (for sessions with two paper presenters)

  3. c. titles of the two or three individual papers

  4. d. a brief summary of each paper

Each complete session is strictly limited to seventy-five minutes. To allow time for introductions and questions, each presentation in three-paper sessions should not exceed twenty minutes (about ten typewritten pages); in two-paper sessions each should be limited to twenty-five minutes (about twelve pages).

Individuals may submit a proposal for a single paper rather than a complete session. Although single papers are often difficult to fit into sessions, committee members will make every effort to include such proposals in the program.

Papers presented should not have been delivered at a scholarly meeting or published prior to the 2014 Texas State Historical Association meeting. There are no objections to the papers being given again or published after the meeting.

Individuals who are to present papers at the 2014 meeting will be required to have a copy of their papers and a one-page vita in the hands of their session chairman and session commentator (in two-paper sessions) by January prior to the meeting.

Participants in a given session should be from different institutions, if possible. Historians from outside Texas, but doing work in Texas-related studies, are encouraged to participate.

Individuals who participate in the TSHA’s annual programs may present a paper once every three years or serve as a commentator once every two years. Session chairs may repeat annually, although the committee will make every effort to avoid repetition.

Proposals should be submitted to: Susan Manuel, TSHA, 1155 Union Circle #311580, Denton, TX 76203-5017, or electronically to
