How long does it take to shoe a mule? The farmer answers “five winks—seven winks, tops.” He compares shoeing a mule to shoeing the moon. The college graduate,
I remark that the moon is footless. “Have you walked the moon?” No. But there is no mention in the current literature of the moon

Gregory Powell currently works as a labor and employment law attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. He graduated from Morehouse College in 1987 with a degree in journalism, and graduated from law school in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2004, he earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa. His poetry has been previously published in Callaloo, Langston Hughes Review, storysouth, Arkansas Review, Cairn, Antietam Review, and other journals. He recently completed his first collection of poetry, ShotgunHouse-Guitar.
