Notes from the Executive Director I am pleased to announce that as the result ofthe recent election, Professor Theodore Cachey Jr. of Arizona State University will serve as Vice-President of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association for 1989. He will become President in 1990 and Past-President in 1991. Professor Barbara Olds of the Colorado School of Mines has been elected to a three-year term as delegate to the Executive Board. As we welcome the new members of the Board, we should note the faithful service ofDavid Leon Higdon as Vice-President, President, and Past-President and the service of Marie-France Hilgar as delegate for the past three years. Professor Higdon has served with the RMMLA-Huntington Committee in addition to regular Board duties, and Marie-France Hilgar is local host for the 1989 convention in Las Vegas. Charles G. Davis RMMLA-Huntington Award An RMMLA committee consisting of Past-President David Leon Higdon, President Susan H. McLeod, and Martin Ridge, research officer for The Huntington, have selected Gerald W Bergevin ofWashington State University as recipient ofthis year's RMMLAHuntington award. Bergevin will receive a stipend of$1500 to work on the relationship between verbal and visual art in Blake's political prophecies. All members ofthe RMMLA are eligible to apply for the RMMLA-Huntington award, which is intended to support research at the Huntington Library. Applications are due to the Executive Director by January 1, 1990. The application should describe the nature ofthe project and proposed publications or other dissemination ofthe results. RMMLA-Feminist Essay Award Evelyn Gajowski of the University of California, Santa Cruz, is the 1988 winner of the RMMLA-Feminist Essay contest for her paper, "The Female Perspective in Othello: the Divided Desdemona." The $25 award is funded by seed money from the MLA Women's Caucus. Jeanie Moore of San Diego State was the 1987 award winner. The award is given for the best feminist essay used at the annual RMMLA Convention. Anyone interested in entering the contest in 1989 should send a copy ofhis/her paper to Janice Harris, English Department, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY 82071 by December 1, 1989. ...
