Humberto García Muñiz (hgarciamuniz@gmail.com) es Director del Instituto de Estudios del Caribe de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Ha realizado investigaciones en seguridad, historia militar, historia del azúcar y movimientos sociales. Es autor de los libros La estrategia de Estados Unidos y la militarización del Caribe (1988), La ayuda militar como negocio: Estados Unidos y el Caribe (2001) y Sugar and Power in the Caribbean: The South Porto Rico Sugar Company in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, 1900–1921 (2010). Recibió el Premio Mejor Bibliografía Regional (1998); Premio Crisálida, Atlan-tea, Universidad de Puerto Rico (2000) y el Gordon K. and Sybil Lewis Award for Caribbean Scholarship (2002).
Betsaida Vélez Natal (betsaida.velez@upr.edu) es Catedrática Asociada de la Escuela Graduada de Ciencias y Tecnologías de la Información de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Obtuvo su DLS de Columbia University. Cuenta con experiencias de trabajo en bibliotecas académicas, públicas y privadas en Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos y la República Dominicana. Es autora de Nicaragua: A Legal Bibliography (Inter-American Law Review 22 no. 1) y coautora con Humberto García Muñiz de Bibliografía militar del Caribe, a la cual se otorgó el premio de la Sociedad de Bibliotecarios. Sus áreas de investigación incluyen necesidades de investigación de gerentes bancarios, información jurídica, archivística, administración de documentos, producción y uso de la información e investigación cualitativa.
Rose Mary Allen (allen_rm@onenet.an) received her Ph.D. degree from the State University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. She has conducted many interviews with descendants of enslaved Africans on several islands of the Dutch Caribbean in order to document their lives in the post-Emancipation period. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Curaçao and other institutes of higher learning in Curaçao. She has co-published, edited and published several books and articles on the cultural and social history of the Dutch Caribbean with special attention to cultural traditions, migration, identity, gender studies, and cultural diversity. In 2011 she was awarded the prestigious Boeli van Leeuwen Prize.
Carlos Vargas Ramos (cvargasr@hunter.cuny.edu) is the public policy researcher of Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños, Hunter College, CUNY, and author of its policy papers: “Settlement Patterns and Residential Segregation of Puerto Ricans in the United States,” “The State of Housing for Hispanics in the United States” and “Housing Emergency and Overcrowding: Latinos in New York City.” He is also [End Page 291] author of “El género y la participación política en Puerto Rico” (In Caribbean Studies 2005), “The Political Participation of Puerto Ricans in New York City” (In CENTRO Journal 2003) and co-author of “Paradigms of Minority and Immigrant Political Participation in the United States” (In Political Decision-making, Deliberation and Participation, JAI Press, 2002), and “Black, Trigueño White…Shifting Racial Identification among Puerto Ricans” (In Du Bois Review 2005). He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University (2000).
Alice E. Colón Warren (colonal@coqui.net) es Investigadora Asociada en el Centro de Investigaciones Sociales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Ha publicado numerosos trabajos en estudios de género, incluyendo el empleo de las mujeres puertorriqueñas, feminismo y derechos reproductivos. Sus publicaciones incluyen el libro co-editado Mujeres en el Caribe: Desarrollo, paz y movimientos comunitarios (1995), el número especial de la revista Caribbean Studies titulado “Feminist Research and Action in the Caribbean” Vol. 28, No. 1 (1995) y Estirando el peso: Acciones de ajuste y relaciones de género ante el cierre de fábricas en Puerto Rico (2008).
