192 NEWS AND INFORMATION Conferences SHOFAR 1993 NAPH Conference on University Teaching of'Hebrew Language and Literature The National Association of Professors ofHebrew (NAPH) is convening its tenth annual conference on University teaching of Hebrew language and literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, on June 6-8, 1993. The NAPH conferences bring together Hebrew scholars and educators from universities, colleges, and seminaries across the country for an exchange of knowledge and information related to teaching in all areas of Hebrew language and literature. There are also sessions devoted to current scholarship and research on Hebrew language and linguistics, modern Hebrew literature, biblical and post-biblical language and literature. This conference aims to explore the ways in which our understanding and experiencing of gender has influenced and been influenced by classical and modern Jewish perspectives. Littell and Hubert G. Locke, the 1993 conference will be held March 7-9 in Tulsa and hosted by the Universiry of Tulsa. Educational News Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships in Jewish Studies Grants are available to students preparing for academic careers in Jewish Studies or whose dissertations relate integrally to Jewish life and culture. The purpose of the grant is to enable the completion of work on the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all academic requirements and should be in the advanced stages ofwriting their dissertations. Applications will be judged on the basis of the potential contribution of the individual to the field of Jewish scholarship. The amount of the grams will be determined by the Academic Advisory Committee; however, awards last year ranged from $4,000 to $6,000. Eligibility is limited to citizens and permanent residents of the United States. Applications must be received by December 31st for the next academic year. Phone: (212) 629-0500. 194 Sidney and Hadassah Musher Publication Prize SHOFAR The National Foundation for Jewish Culture invites submissions for the Sidney and Hadassah Musher Publication Prize. The prize will provide a $3,000 grant towards the cost of publication for Ph.D. dissertations relating to Jewish life in Israel or the Diaspora from 1880 to the present. Applicants must have completed their dissertations and have a commitment for publication from an academic or university press.
