Abstract

One might expect that authors would be gratified by the existence of societies devoted to the discussion of works of literature, particularly of those committed to the works of particular authors. Or might resentment of the lack of a band of such devotees of their own rather guide their reaction? Either way, it seems that fictional portrayals of such societies are far from flattering, as this brief article points out.
