When There Is a Birth or Regeneration

When there is a birth or regeneration suddenly we wake from sleep as the dumb smiles when the sun touches his lips, and the hidden comes to the fore, and the unseen bursts forth in the light, and the hearts of the lonely men leap in the air.

With each blossoming the earth opens. We draw nearer to what we hold so personal and precious, whole and sane, and we cherish what remains to be our last and lasting: mother’s love, promises broken, or an imperturbable relationship. [End Page 266]

Rabiul Hasan

Rabiul Hasan's work has appeared in more than forty journals and anthologies in the United States, Canada, and Malaysia. He has published one full-length collection of poetry, Madonna of the Rain (Rockford Writers' Guild, 2008), and is also the author of Rediscovering Hemingway in Bangladesh and India, 1971–2006 (UP of America, 2010). He is an assistant professor of English at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
