Carolyn Bliss, Ph.D., directs the LEAP learning community at the University of Utah and has taught in it since 1994, principally in a multiyear version of the program for underrepresented students seeking careers in health and medicine. Her research is in first-year experiences and their assessment, bioethics, and Australian literature.
Brian Caughie is the assistant principal at Central Bucks High School-West in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He holds a B.A. in German, Spanish, and secondary education from Rider University and an M.A. in Spanish from Villanova University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from Holy Family University.
Jan Cook is an information representative at Bucks County Community College, Newtown, Pennsylvania. Holding a master's degree in information systems management, she is pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership at Holy Family University. Her dissertation focuses on special needs of U.S. military veterans and active-duty students returning to college.
Frauke Hachtmann, Ph.D., is an associate professor of advertising and public relations in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has published on assessment, critical thinking, international advertising pedagogy, and cross-cultural value differences used in advertising messages (fhachtmann1@unl.edu).
Sarah Hurley received a master's degree in public affairs from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011. She is currently a research assistant at the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
Carol Luongo is a sixth grade English language arts and religion teacher with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She has taught a variety of grade levels and subject areas. Luongo received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education [End Page v] from Holy Family University and is certified in elementary and early childhood education.
Leatrice Malec earned a B.S. in mathematics from Chestnut Hill College and a master of education degree from Arcadia University. Malec has been an administrator, teacher, and principal. She is employed by the School District of Philadelphia and is in the doctoral program in educational leadership at Holy Family University.
Shawn Mark is principal of Cornwells Elementary School, Bensalem Township School District, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She earned her B.S. in elementary and special education and master of education in school counseling from Millersville University and her principal certification from Temple University and is a doctoral student at Holy Family University.
Mark St. Andre holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Iowa. He is the assistant dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Utah. He is currently a candidate for a master's in statistics and a Ph.D. in educational psychology at the University of Utah.
Donna Tortu-Rueter is a special education teacher with Pennsbury School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from Fordham University and a master's degree in elementary education/ special education from Holy Family University. She is working toward a doctorate in educational leadership at Holy Family University.
Xueli Wang, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of higher and postsecondary education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also serves as a scholar at the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education.
Jeff Webb, Ph.D., is associate director of the LEAP Program, with administrative responsibilities in program assessment. He has taught LEAP classes since 2005. His research focuses on classroom social networks in learning communities. Prior to working in LEAP, he was a teacher and administrator at the National University of Singapore. [End Page vi]
