Poems are in many ways different from sausages; e.g., poems have the advantage over sausages— you can eat them, and they are still there. You can eat them over and over, they are still there anyway. Just like that pig in Norse mythology.
The commercial officer at the embassy couldn’t understand that. It surprised him, simply. Ingenious, he said, rubbing his hands as if he already sat in Valhalla drinking mead. It’s simply ingenious. [End Page 72]
Niels Hav is a full-time poet and short-story writer, with awards from the Danish Arts Council. In English he has published the poetry collection We Are Here (BookThug, 2006), as well as poems and stories in numerous magazines, including the Literary Review, Shearsman, Exile, the Los Angeles Review, and PRISM International.
P. K. Brask is professor of theater and film at the University of Winnipeg. He has published poetry, short stories, drama, translations, and essays in books and journals. His works include Essays on Kushner’s Angels (Blizzard Publishing, 1995) and a number of radio dramas for CBC Manitoba, as well as plays and libretti, including the libretto for Michael Matthews’s chamber opera, Prince Kasper (2005).
