304Announcements ROSEMARY T. VAN ARSDEL, Distinguished Professor of English, Emérita, University of Puget Sound, is co-editor, with J. Don Vann, of Victorian Periodicals: A Guide to Research, vols. 1 and 2 (1978, 1989); Victorian Periodicals and Victorian Society (1994); and Periodicals of Queen Victoria's Empire (1996). She is co-editor, with Gordon S. Haight of George Eliot: A Centenary Tribute (1982). A founding member, and past president, of the Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (1981-1983) she served on the editorial boards of The Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals, 1824-1900 (S vols., 196689 ) and the Union List of Victorian Serials in North American Libraries (1985). CHRIS WIESENTHAL teaches Victorian Literature at the University of Alberta. Her first book Figuring Madness in Nineteenth-Century Fiction, has recently appeared with Macmillan Press. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals will hold its thirtieth annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 21-22, 1998 (immediately following the meeting of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing). RSVP is seeking proposals for individual papers or panels dealing with any aspect of Victorian periodicals including their cultural significance, theoretical bearings, and uses in teaching. RSVP is strongly interdisciplinary and proposals relating Victorian periodicals to, for example, music, art, theatre, rhetoric, exploration, and science, are encouraged. RSVP welcomes proposals from graduate students.
