Sandra Donaldson has just completed a manuscript for an annotated bibliography of the commentary and criticism on Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 1826-1990, for G.K. Hall. TERRl DOUGHTY, Malaspina College, has an essay entitled "Sarah Grand's The Beth Book: the New Woman and the Ideology ofthe Romance Ending" forthcoming inAnxious Power Reading Writing and Ambivalence in Narrative by Women (SUNY UP). KEN DeLong, University ofCalgary, presented "Dvorak's Seventh Symphony and Brahm's Symphony: The Question of Influence" at the International Dvorak Conference in New Orleans, 1991, and "FromAffekt to Topos: Some Observations on Expression in Mozart's Ascanio in Alba" at the International Mozart Conference in Calgary, 1991; his article "Roads Taken and Retaken: Foreground Ambiguity in Chopin's Prelude in ?-flat, Op. 28, No. IT appeared in the Spring 1991 issue of the Canadian University Music Review. A review of Christopher Norris's Music and the Politics of Culture appears in the June 1992 issue ofMusic Library Notes, and a review of three new books on Elgar will appear in the following issue. SUSAN HAMILTON, University of Alberta, has an article entitled "Pets and Scientific Subjects: Constructions of the Animal Body in Victorian Anti-Vivisection Periodicals" forthcoming in Literature and the Body, ed. A.G. Purdy (Rudopi P, 1992). OLIVER Lovesey, Okanagan College, has recently published The Clerical Character in George Eliot's Fiction (U of Victoria: ELS Monograph Scries, 1991). KATHLEEN McCRONE, University of Windsor, published "Class, Gender and English Women's Sport, 1890-1914" in die Journal ofSport History 18.1 (1991): 159-82. JuUET McMaster has been playing truant from critical and Victorian studies to turn eighteenth-century illustrator. She has adapted Jane Austen's piece of juvenilia, The Beautifull Cassandra" (sic), as a picture book for children. The characters have become small animale, on the Beatrix Potter model, and are dressed in the fashions of 1788, the probable date of the story. The enterprise has been conditionally accepted by McGiIlQueen 's University Press, and, if all goes well, may be out in 1993. R. D. McMaster, University of Alberta, has an article, 'Rebecca and Rowena and Bakhtin," in the Thackeray issue of Cahiers Victoriens et Edourdiens, October 199Z LLOYD SIEMENS, University of Winnipeg, has published The Critical Reception of Sir H. Rider Haggard (ELT Press, 1991). Glennis Stephenson will be moving to Scotland to take up a position at the University of Stirling this year. Her recent publications include Nineteenth-Century Stories by Women (Broadview 1993) and "Letitia Landon and the Victorian Improvisatrice" (VP Spring 1992).
