Notes From the Executive Director In the recent election for the RMMLA Executive Board, Monica S. Cyrino (University of New Mexico) was chosen as the new Vice President and Sally Bishop Shigley (Weber State University) was elected as delegate. Both officers will serve a three-year term. Members of the RMMLA may nominate themselves or colleagues as potential candidates for the Board by sending a letter to the Executive Director before the October meeting. The Board puts together the slate of candidates keeping in mind a balance of discipline , geography, and gender. At the April and October meetings of the Executive Board, the RMMLA's association with the Mellen Press was discussed in relation to the publicity recently attached to the press. At the April meeting the Board determined to sever relations with the press at the end of the 1994 year and to read the manuscripts currently submitted . When the Mellen Press did not respond to our requests for confirmation oftheir willingness to honor their financial agreement, the Board determined to terminate the association at once. RMMLA/HUNTINGTON The recipient of the 1995 RMMLA/Huntington Award of $1,800 for research is William Levine of SuI Ross State University. He will do work toward a book on the "Classic to Romantic problem." The RMMLA Huntington Committee was chaired by Monica Cyrino (Vice President of RMMLA) and included Susanne Baackman (University of New Mexico) and Robert C. Ritchie of The Huntington. Any member ofthe RMMLA may apply for the award by sending a proposal to the Executive Director by the first of January. Specific guidelines are published in the convention program or are available from the Executive Director. HOUSING THE SECRETARIAT On December 31, 1996, the term of the Secretariat (the office of the Executive Director and the Editor of the Review) will end at Boise State University. The Executive Board is seeking proposals from other institutions and will discuss the requirements and procedures at its April meeting.
