NOTES FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RMMLA-Mellen Press Book Award The Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association sponsors an annual RMMLA-Mellen Award for an Outstanding Monograph in Literary Studies. The author of the successful manuscript will be awarded a stipend of $1,000, and the manuscript will be published by Mellen Press. For the purpose of this monograph series, Literary Studies includes criticism, historical backgrounds, and cultural relations. Manuscripts may be in English, French, German, or Spanish. Manuscripts for the award are due in the office of the Executive Director April 1, 1994. RMMLA members who are willing to serve as reviewers are invited to send a letter to that effect along with a current vita to the Executive Director. Guidelines for the RMMLA-Mellen Award: 1.Only book-length manuscripts will be considered. 2.Only manuscripts by members of RMMLA will be considered. 3.Only unpublished manuscripts will be considered. 4.Manuscripts must be submitted as anonymous. The title page should contain only the title of the manuscript, and all references in text and notes which would identify the author should be removed. Indicate name, manuscript title, address, telephone number, and identify the general field and century/period covered by the manuscript on a separate sheet. 5.Edited collections of essays by various authors will not be considered . 6.An author may submit more than one manuscript. 7.Manuscripts under consideration by another publisher will not be considered. 8.Readers of manuscripts will be experts in the field and will be selected by the RMMLA Book Award Committee. 9.The manuscript format should conform to that of the latest MLA stylesheet. 10.Two clear and easy-to-read copies of the manuscripts should be submitted. Final copies of successful manuscripts will require one very clear, easily scanned copy. 11.The prize will be $1,000 paid by the Mellen Press and publication by the Mellen Press. 198 12. Manuscript deadline is April 1, 1994. Announcement ofthe winner will be made at the 1994 RMMLA convention. RMMLA-Huntington Award In conjunction with the Huntington Library, the RMMLA offers a $1,800 stipend to support research at the Huntington. All members of the RMMLA are eligible for the RMMLA-Huntington award for 1994, and we especially encourage younger scholars to apply. The deadline is January 1, 1994. Criteria for selection include value of the project, appropriateness of the research to material available at the Huntington, promise and experience of the researcher, and proposed use or distribution of the results. To apply, send five copies of a vita indicating prior research and publication plus a description ofthe project and any work completed on it, along with a letter indicating what Huntington materials would be used, the approximate dates of residence, and a statement agreeing that all funds received will be used for the purpose of research and that, should the candidate be unable to use the funds, the RMMLA would be notified immediately. Membership Renewals Membership in the RMMLA is by calendar year. We make several attempts to contact members to notify them when their membership is about to expire, but our addresses are sometimes out of date. If a colleague is not receiving mailings—the Review, the Call for Papers, or registration materials—the colleague should check with the RMMLA to determine membership and address status. We have recently taken offthe mailing list members who last paid for 1991 and will shortly remove the names of those who last paid in 1992.
