J. Worth Estes Award

The award is made annually for the best paper published in a journal or book collection of essays in the history of pharmacology during the previous two years. "History of pharmacology" is broadly defined to include ancient and traditional materia medica, folk medicines, herbal medicine, the pharmaceuticals and medications of the modern era, pharmaceutics, and the like. It shall encompass the discovery, basic investigations, characteristics, properties, preparations, and therapeutic applications of medicaments.

While the award committee will be monitoring the journals and books where such articles might appear, committee members welcome nominations of eligible papers. The nomination should consist of a supporting letter, along with a copy of the article. For the current award, candidate papers will be those published in 1999 and 2000.

The award will be presented at the annual meeting of the AAHM in the form of a written acknowledgment. A generous contribution in honor of Worth Estes from an AAHM member allows the award to be accompanied by a check for $500.

Nominations should be directed to the Estes Award Committee Chair: Dr. John Parascandola, Public Health Service Historian, 18-23 Parklawn Building, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20857. Deadline for receipt of nominations: 16 January 2001. [End Page 804]
