Working Knowledge

WORKING KNOWLEDGE T/f/órking Knowledge is a forum for commentary on problems oflexVV icography. The short papers in this section are meant to be freeranging and reasonably unconstrained in approach and style. Working Knowledge provides space to engage in focused discussion ofcritical, on-going issues that are, presumably, already on lexicographers' minds. In honor ofthe 300th anniversary of Samuel Johnson's birth, this year's Working Knowledge is devoted to his work. There are four papers, on Hester Lynch Piozzi's British Synonymy and interactions with Johnson, Johnson's prescriptive labels, Johnson and science, and Johnson on Americanisms. ...
