CLAH Luncheon Address, January 2003

As is customary, we are reprinting the address from the Conference on Latin American History (CLAH) luncheon that is held during the American Historical Association's annual meeting in January. Argentine scholar Dr. Ricardo Cicerchia addressed the group on the topic of personal and historiographical travels across cultural frontiers. Dr. Cicerchia, long associated with the Universidad de Buenos Aires, has just this year taken up a position as director of research and senior research fellow of the New Zealand Centre for Latin American Studies at the University of Auckland. After completing his M.A. in sociology in Buenos Aires, he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Latin American history from Columbia University. Subsequently, he did postdoctoral training at the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of London. In addition to numerous articles and conference papers, his best known work is the two-volume Historia de la vida privada en la Argentina (Buenos Aires: Troquel, 1998, 2001).

Obituaries and Appreciations

We are publishing in this issue Joe Love's tribute to John Wirth, who died on June 21, 2002. The editors welcome the submission of reminiscences and appreciations of departed colleagues. We occasionally solicit such essays, but would prefer that people volunteer them. Please notify the editorial office (Americas@cua.edu) if you would like to prepare such a piece (up to 1,000 words) on a Latin American scholar and let us know when you will be able to send it in. Contingent upon available space and editorial approval, we will be glad to honor the memories of our colleagues in this way.

Primary Documents

In the last two issues, we have published some primary documents that we hope will be especially useful for the classroom. Please see the Editor's Page in the October 2002 issue for guidelines for submission of such documents.
