Melvin L. Bashore is senior librarian at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. He holds a B.F.A. from the University of Utah, an M.Ed. from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and an M.L.S. from Brigham Young University. With an interest in history, he has written articles for the Utah Historical Quarterly, Annals of Wyoming, Kansas History, South Dakota History, and Journal of Mormon History.

Alistair Black is professor of library and information history at the School of Information Management, Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds, England. He holds an undergraduate degree in modern history and a master’s degree in social and economic history from London University as well as a postgraduate diploma in information studies and a Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of North London. He served as the chair of the Library History Group, U.K., from 1992 to 2000 and is currently serving as the secretary of the IFLA Section on Library History. His special interests focus on the history of libraries, especially public ones, the history of information management, and the sociology of the modern public library.

Edward A. Goedeken is the humanities bibliographer at Parks Library, Iowa State University, Ames. In addition to a bachelor’s degree from William Penn College and a master’s from Iowa State University, both in American history, he holds an M.L.S. from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Kansas. A frequent contributor to L& C, his interests include biographical studies of librarians and the history of the Iowa State University Library.

Daniel Goldstein is humanities and social sciences librarian at the University of California, Davis. He holds an undergraduate degree in history from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Iowa, and a Ph.D. in history from Yale University. His articles have appeared in Isis and the Annals of Iowa, and he has contributed entries to American National Biography and The History of Science in the United States.
