THE CONTRIBUTORS Stephen Dougherty is an assistant professor at Elizabethtown Community College. His dissertation is about Poe and race-based nationalism. w. c. Harris received his Ph.D. in English from The Johns Hopkins University. He has published articles in American Literary History, Walt Whitman Quarterly Review, and Victorian Review. William M. morgan is an assistant professor of English at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He is currently completing a book entitled Public Engagements: Humanitarianism and Complicity in U.S. Literary Realism. Donald pease is Avalon Foundation Chair of the Humanities, professor of English and American Literature, chair of the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program, and director of the Institute on the Future of American Studies at Dartmouth. He is also the author of Visionary Compacts, the editor of eight volumes on American Literary Studies, and the general editor of the New Americanists Series at Duke University Press. Susan kollin is Assistant Professor of English at Montana State University in Bozeman. Her recent articles have appeared in Western American Literature and American Literary History.
