At present she is working on a book project exploring theatricality in the antebellum public sphere. Lara langer cohen is a doctorial candidate at Yale University. She is currently working on a dissertation on fraud and the production of nineteenth-century American literary culture. Jesse alemán is an assistant professor of English at the University of New Mexico. His articles appear in MELUS and Aztlan, and several edited collections, and he republished with a critical introduction Loreta Janeta Velazquez's The Woman in Battle. Adam SONSTEGARD recently completed a dissertation on representations of the visual arts—as responses to the development of photography —in American literature. He is now a lecturer in the English department at the University of California at Davis. simon PETCH teaches in the Department of English at the University of Sydney. His essays on law and literature in Victorian England have been published in Criticism, Studies in the Novel, Victorian Literature and Culture and Victorian Poetry.
