EDITOR'S COMMENT The College ofArts and Sciences at Northeastern University has supported Studies in American Fiction consistently for more than three decades. My colleagues on SAF's internal editorial board and I are deeply grateful that the College's longstanding financial commitment , together with that ofour subscribers, has made it possible for Northeastern's Department ofEnglish to help sustain the community ofscholarly publication in American literature. Editing SAFYias introduced me to awonderfully collégial, worldwide communityofAmericanliterature specialists, andI willcontinue to look forward to meeting in person many ofthe rising scholars we have published in recent years. Some of SAFs back issues are currently being gathered together forfree electronic accessunderthe auspices ofNortheasternUniversity's Institutional Repository—IRis—and the Northeastern University Libraries (). I hope that SAFs readers will continue to visit these resources as they expand, and I thankNortheastern University for helping to preserve SAFs legacy in this new medium. Mary Loeffelholz ...
