EDITOR'S COMMENT With this issue Studies in American Fiction marks the retirement ofMary Morley Armato, 5AfS Editorial Assistant for the past sixteen years. Mrs. Armato's editorial vigilance and knowledge ofthejournal, along with her care and tact in handling the affairs of the office, was vital to me when I assumed the editorship from SAFs founding editor, James Nagel. The members ofour internal and external editorial boards, the many student assistants to the journal over the years, and other members of the English Department here at Northeastern join me in thanking Mary Armato for her many years of service and wishing her the very best in her retirement.
