About the Authors and Editors Harry L. Watson is Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. John Shelton Reed is William Rand Kenan, Jr. Professor of Sociology, Director of the Institute for Research in Social Science, and Interim Director of the Center for the Study of the American South at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
