2I4 Contributor Notes MichaelAlexander is Berry Professor ofEnglish Literature at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He is best known for his verse translation of Beowulf (Penguin) and his Poetic Achievement of Ezra Pound (University of California Press). In 2001 he will publish A History ofEnglish Literature with St. Martin's Press, NewYork. Stratford Caldecott is Director of the Centre for Faith & Culture and ofthe European branch ofthe Chesterton Institute, both based at Plater College in Oxford, where he is Tutor in Christianity and Society. A graduate ofOxford University, he is a contributing editor to Communio and The Chesterton Review, and editor of Beyond the Prosaic: Renewing the Liturgical Movement and (with John Morrill) of Eternity in Time: Christopher Dawson and the Catholic Idea ofHistory. Wil Derkse, a Benedictine oblate of St. Willibrord's Abbey, is Academic Director of the Radboud Foundation in the Netherlands and is the Radboud professor ofphilosophy at Eindhoven University of Technology. In English he has published On Simplicity and Elegance:An Essay in Intellectual History (Delft, 1993), and in the fall of 2000 Lanno Publishers (Belgium) will present Een levensregel voorbeginners: Benedictijnse spiritualiteit voor het dagelijks leven (A Rule of Life for Beginners: Benedictine Spirituality in Everyday Life). An English translation is being considered. Roger Duncan holds the Ph.D. in philosophy fromYale University . He taught philosophy at the University of Connecticut, Hartford Branch, for twenty-seven years, currently teaches philosophy at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut, logos 3:3 summer 2000 CONTRIBUTOR NOTES and is the author ofnumerous articles on classical andThomistic philosophy . He is one ofthe three founding members ofthe Promisek Center atThree Rivers Farm, Connecticut. Sister Paula Jean Miller, F.S.E., is Director of Catholic Studies and associate professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, whose motherhouse is in Meriden, Connecticut. Sister PaulaJean received her doctorate in SacredTheology from the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family inWashington, D.C., in 1993. Other publications include: Members of One Body; Prophets, Priests and Kings:An Ecclesiology ofMission; and Marriage: The Sacrament ofDivine-Human Communion, A Commentary on St. Bonaventure 's Theology ofMarriage. Glenn W. Olsen is professor ofhistory at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. A specialist in medieval intellectual and ecclesiastical history, he has also published extensively on modern topics in theology, intellectual history, and political thought. A book on the history of Christian marriage, which he has edited and to which he has contributed the chapters on the patristic and medieval periods, is about to be published by Crossroad. Gerald J. Russello holds degrees in classics from Georgetown University and in law from NewYork University. He is the editor of Christianity and European Culture: Selectionsfrom theWork ofChristopher Dawson (The Catholic University ofAmerica Press, 1998). He practices law in NewYork City. Michel Marie Schumacher, S.TD., is the mother of two young children and an external research assistant (collaboratrice scientifique externe) ofthe University ofFribourg, Switzerland, where she resides with her husband Bernard. She has published several articles in the lie 2i6logos domains oftheological anthropology, including the role and vocation ofwomen, the sacrament ofmarriage, and the theology ofHans Urs von Balthasar. Currently, she is doing research toward the development ofthe "new feminism"proposed by Pope John Paul II (cf. Evangelium Vitae, ?. 99) as well as on the mysticism of Adrienne von Speyr. Mary Shivanandan, S.T.D., is professor of theology and associate dean at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family . She is author ofthe recently published Crossing the Threshold ofLove: A New Vision ofMarriage in the Light ofJohn Paul WsAnthropology as well as numerous journal and other articles on theological anthropology, marriage, and natural family planning. Rafael E. Tarrago is the Librarian for Iberian and Ibero-American Studies at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. He is author of The Pageant ofIbero-American Civilization:An Introduction to Its Cultural History (Lanham: University Press of America, 1996), and of other books and articles on Spanish and Spanish-American history and culture.
