Abstract

This essay will serve as the Prologue to the book in progress, Fordham Lives, a personal history of Fordham University as told through the lives and college experiences of young men and women who have gone through this university since its founding in 1841. The story of the year told here is significant because the school's identity was both tested and proven by the extraordinary suffering which many members of the community endured.
