Pat Matsueda is the managing editor of Manoa and the author of two small books of poetry. She met Darlaine Mahealani Dudoit around 1989 and worked with her for several years, becoming a friend. The poem in this issue was written after reading an article on Dudoit's life and the events leading to her death in August 2002; written by Tanya Bricking, the article remains unpublished.
