Abstract

Initially, Amurfina and Giramphiel do not conform to the more traditional role of the courtly lady. Instead, they are independent, powerful, and self-aware, or in other words, 'problem women.' This essay examines their role in Diu Crône and determines whether they can be rehabilitated or must remain alienated from Arthurian society.
