Abstract

References in The Awntyrs off Arthure to Kirfre, Vlstur Hall, Wayford, and Waterford have puzzled scholars, but they may be identified as Caerphilly and Oysterlow in South Wales, and Wexford and Waterford in Ireland. If so, they provide evidence to associate the poem with the young duke of York (d. 1460), who was linked with the first three of these places, either directly or via his guardian.
