About the Authors and Editors Peter A. Coclanis is associate professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Among his recent publications is The Shadow of a Dream: Economic Life and Death in the South Carolina Low Country, 1670-1920. John M. Coski is the director of The Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia. James Forman Jr. is a graduate of Yale Law School, and now works as a public defender in Washington, D.C. John Shelton Reed is William Rand Kenan Jr. Professor of Sociology and director of the Institute for Research in Social Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
