Award Announcement The Kent State University Press is pleased to announce that Gregory J. W. Urwin has been awarded the 1997 Harold L. Peterson Award for his article '"We cannot treat negroes ... as prisoners of war': Racial Atrocities and Reprisals in Civil War Arkansas," published in the September 1996 issue of Civil War History . The award, which carries an honorarium of one thousand dollars, is given by the Eastern National Park and Museum Association in honor of the prolific military author who was chief curator of the National Park Service and chairman of the Board of Eastern Nation. Dr. Urwin is a professor of history at the University of Central Arkansas. ...
