He is writing a book on "Lincoln and the Constitution: The Fate of Civil Liberties in Times of Total War." William C. McDonald teaches medieval studies in the German Department at the University of Virginia. Visits to Washington and Lee University and research on the idea of the "Nobility of Soul" prompted his interest in Robert E. Lee. Samuel T. McSeveney teaches history at Vanderbilt University. Author of The Politics ofDepression, he is now studying New York City politics. Joseph W. A.
