CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS ISSUE Mark J. Stegmaier is associate professor of history at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. In collaboration with David H. Miller, he has just completed a biography of James F. Milligan, a member ofFremont's fifth expedition. His current research concerns various aspects of the 1850 crisis. Howard C. Westwood is a partner in the law firm of Covington & Burling, Washington, D. C, and has published numerous articles on the Civil War. Daniel E. Sutherland is associate professor of history at McNeese State University. He is currently completing a study of postwar Confederate emigration to the North. Lawrence R. Murphy teaches history and directs the Institute for Personal and Career Development at Central Michigan University. A doctoral graduate of Texas Christian University, he has published widely on the history of the Southwest. James Boyd Jones, Jr. (D.A.) is a Historic Preservation Specialist/ Cultural Resource Surveyor on the staffof the Tennessee Historical Commission, Nashville. ...
