Abstract

The last page of Tommaso Baldinotti's manuscript of Lucan (University of Iowa MS xMMs. Hi1) contains three colophons: one a common leonine hexameter probably copied from the exemplar, another a poem by Baldinotti in four lines that have been deleted, and a third in a slightly different hand that gives the date for the manuscript. This essay presents the recovered text of the deleted colophon and argues, based on comparison with two other manuscripts written by Tommaso Baldinotti, that the third colophon was written by Baldinotti's nephew, Baldinotto Baldinotti.
