WILLIAM J. JENKS First President of Friends' Historical Association, 1874-1904 PERSONNEL OF THE ASSOCIATION.7 more College. This was accordingly done. Of this money, which was largely the Publication Fund of the Association, Haverford College received $169.78 and Swarthmore College, 169.79. The plan of merging with the Association the younger and more active Friends' Historical Society of Philadelphia, founded in 1904, having been individually approved by the two surviving members of the Association, namely, a Race Street Friend, James H. Atkinson, charter member and Treasurer, and an Arch Street Friend, Marcellus Balderston, these Friends, on 11 mo. 17, 1923, held a meeting of the Association.3 This occurred, as before, in James H. Atkinson's office. A formal vote was taken in favor of the above proposal and the officers and a majority of the Council of the Society were duly elected to the Association. At the next meeting of the Association, held 12 mo. 1, 1923, at the same place, the members of the Society were unanimously elected to membership in the Association. Directors of the Association were then elected, and immediately after adjournment the Directors met and elected the new officers. Thus the union was consummated and the new era dawned.
