In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

INTROÏT One of the major objects of the Society for Ch'ing Studies is to keep track of those scholars who are working in the Ch'ing field, both to facilitate scholarly communication and to prevent needless duplication of effort. Accordingly , the next number of Ch'ing-shih wen-t'i will be devoted to a listing of all those currently on our books. Enclosed with this Bulletin are several copies of a simple questionnaire . Please fill this out and return it either to the editor, or to Mrs. Marilyn Egel, Dept, of Chinese and Japanese, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri 63130. Since it is essential that the Society, if it is to be successful, learn the names of those entering the field, please would all those receiving this number of the Bulletin give us a little help: If you have any graduate students working at the doctoral level in some aspect of Ch'ing studies, inform them of the Society's existence, and give them one of the questionnaires. Encourage them to become paying members of the Society ($5 per annum), but if they cannot afford the sum please ask them to send in the questionnaire anyway, as they can then be added to the mailing list of those receiving the Bulletin. If the blank questionnaires run out, the requisite information may be sent by card or letter» Jonathan Spence (CSWT editor) 2185 Yale Station, New Haven, Conn. 06520 1 - ...
