Parker, University of Toronto: "I should like to mention a few points concerning this important matter that the comediantes are considering» When editing my Gitanilla (unpublished Ph.D. dissertation, University of Toronto,,._19Ul)>. I ran into many of the difficulties mentioned by professor Rozzell. -Nc* attempting Lope's El poder en el discreto, I would be greatly helped if I could find 'something rather definitive .. along the line of conformity of ityle with reference to a number of relatively minor details. ' But I wonder if in many cases there is one best way ,(cf, the bibliographical procedure of our learned periodicals, PMLA, HR, etc.). We could however, do little better than follow such a good example as Fichter's 19UU edition of Lope's El sembrar en buena tierra . This contains such features as a scholarly introduction and transcription of the text, with variants, Notes and Indices. The last name (Index of Persons and Titles and Index of Annotated Words and Material), so very useful, is often omitted by editors. "I should like to see a discussion of many points such as critical notes (leave out all eommon ones), spelling and punctuation (modernize?). Finally I wonder whether a vast extension of Fontecha's vocabulary (not 'technique of editing the comedia, of course) could not be carried out in America to prove a boon to "note" preparation?"
