Claire Landau is no longer the managing editor. She has held this post since volume 9 (she would much prefer that I not mention years) when she was appointed by Dwight Ingle, the founding Editor. Those who have experience in journal editing are aware of the essential organizing and promotional activity of a person in this position. Two popular features of PERSPECTIVES, our periodic young writers contest (The Dwight Ingle Memorial Award) and "It Has Been Said", our section of aphorisms collected by readers, are the result of her proposals. The other change is the appointment of Robert Perlman as Co-Editor. Bob has been one of the Associate Editors for a couple of years. He is a Professor in The University of Chicago's Departments of Pediatrics and Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences, and he recently completed a term as Master of Biology in The University of Chicago College. Bob is a remarkably broad biological scholar, who is admirably equipped for the position. His more youthful scientific outlook will help us maintain the editorial balance required for this journal of essays. Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, 40, 2 ¦ Winter 1997 | 159 ...
