Abstract

This essay attempts to account for the author's present position—as an expatriate teacher of creative writing in Macao, China—a highly ambiguous place with impressively hybrid cultural credentials, now being made over as the Las Vegas of the East. Attending to the geo-political and historical dimensions of his work, the author briefly describes his mission in China under the rubric that 'everyone has a story to tell' and the world will be a healthier place if we can all listen to each other's stories.
