Contributors Kazuhiro Abe is a doctoral candidate in sociology at UCLA. He is currently conducting dissertation research on the relationship between the development ofJapanese capitalism and the emergence of a Korean minority in Japan between 1910 and 1945. His special interests include race and ethnicity and the development of Third World countries. Sung-Yun Bak is Associate Professor of linguistics and English at Sung Kyun Kwan University , Seoul. Articles stemming from his linguistic research on Korean have appeared in recent issues of the Linguistic Journal ofKorea, Korean Linguistics, andLanguage Research. Robert E. Buswell, Jr., is a doctoral candidate in Buddhist Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently studying the process by which the Koryö Buddhist canon was edited, and he is editing Buddhist Apocrypha in East Asia and Tibet (forthcoming, 1985). GregoryHenderson is a guestprofessor at the Free University, Berlin. He is currently working on a volume about Korean-American relations, an introduction to Korean culture, a monograph on the Prakchi Incident and the Collaborator Issue, and an article on the theoretical components of the Vortex Theory. Roger L. Janelli is Associate Professor of folklore and East Asian languages and cultures at Indiana University, Bloomington. He is currently researching the management and organization of Korean businesses. With Dawnhee Yim Janelli, he coauthored Ancestor Worship and Korean Society (Stanford, California: Stanford University Press, 1982), and he is a member of the executive committee of the Committee on Korean Studies. Patricia Polansky is the Russian bibliographer at Alderman Library, University of Hawaii, Manoa. Her current research interests include bibliography of Russians in the Pacific, and Russian bibliography of Asia and Siberia. Articles by her on Russian bibliography of Asia have appeared in the International Library Review and in Pacific Studies. Jin Young Ro is Instructor in the Department of Library Studies, Kongju Teacher's College, Kongju, Korea. She has published "The Social Structure and Change in Sanum Village in the Seventeenth Century," Yoksa Kyoyuk 25 (1979), and is a member ofthe Library Associations and Institutions of Korea. Henrik Hjort Sorensen is Research Fellow and doctoral candidate sponsored by the Central Institute for Research on Asia in Scandinavia. His research interests include Korean Buddhist paintings of the Yi dynasty, early Korean Son Buddhism, and the meditation techniques of Korean Buddhism.
