EL MENTIDERO DE COMEDIANTES Professor Henryk Ziomek will serve as discussion leader for the annual comedia seminar during the MLA meeting this December in San Francisco. The topic will be "The Lesser-Known Playwrights of the Comedia." Colleagues who might be interested in serving on the panel should contact Professor Ziomek immediately (Romance Languages, University of Georgia 30601). The headline to this report from Lisbon, which will serve at once to clarify the preceding, reads : "Desnudo integral en una versión de El gran teatro del mundo." According to ABC's correspondent in Lisbon, this effort in experimental theater involved presenting ". . .a treinta actrices y actores tal y como vinieron al mundo, cuando se representa la creación de éste, . . ." The Northeast MLA ( Montreal, April 3-5) Golden Age Comedia Section speakers were: Prof. Edward Nagy, "La relación dinámica entre la envoltura castrense y el fondo cortesano nacional en Los amotinados de Fhndes de Luis Vélez de Guevara"; Prof. David T. Gies, "Tyranny and the Abuse of Royal Power in Calderón"; and Prof. Thomas A. O'Connor, "Salazar y Torres' Celestina : Theme, Character and Dramatic Unity." The Chairman of the Section was Prof. A. J. Valbuena-Briones. Prof. Harlan Sturm served as Secretary. In addition to Professor Vern Williamsen 's annual bibliography, the following articles are scheduled for the fall 1975 issue: "The Ruling Temper of Calder ón's La dama duende" by Robert ter Horst; "Noticias de la comedia anònima llamada El tejedor de Segovia: Primera parte" by Adriana Lewis Galanes; "Lope and Calderón's La hija del aire" by Joseph G. FuciUa; "Two Plays from One Source: La fianza satisfecha and El mártir de Madrid" by Vern G. Williamsen and Henry A. Linares; "Contribuci ón al esclarecimiento bibliográfico de la 'Segunda Parte' de Tirso de Molina" by Luis Iscla Rovira; "Guillen de Castro 's Creative Use of the Romancero: One Instance in Las mocedades del Cid" by Ion T. Agheana; "The Theme of Love in Lope's El amor enamorado" by John B. Wooldridge; and "The Art of Role-Change in Calderonian Drama" by Susan L. Fischer. Tucked in somewhere among the pages of this issue, you will find a statement -of-concern form letter which you may wish to forward to MLA headquarters — or you may wish to compose one of your own. The Spanish 3 Executive Committee, our representative to the Delegate Assembly of the MLA (Professor John Lihani), and the members of the BCom editorial board are concerned at the turn of events that will effectively destroy the autonomy of the Comedia Group by merging it with 65 Spanish 2 in order to create a new Division . Neither the Executive Committee of Spanish 2 nor the membership of Spanish 3 is in favor of this merger. If you are in favor of continuing Spanish 3 as an independent Division within the new structure of the MLA annual meeting , please let the Executive Secretary know your wish without delay. The Department of Romance Languages of the University of North Carolina and La Sociedad Hispánica Carolinesa presented three entremeses by Luis Quiñones de Benavente (Los cuatro gaznes; Los mariones; and Los muertos vivos) on March 6 and 7 at UNC, Chapel Hill.
