MINUTES OF THE 1982 MEETINGS OF THE COMEDIANTES At the 1982 MLA Convention in Los Angeles, the Division on Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century Spanish Drama sponsored three sessions on the comedia, all chaired by Frank P. Casa. The program on A Reconsideration of Spanish Golden Age History Plays featured papers by Elaine Bunn, A. Robert Lauer, and Audrey LumsdenKouvel . Vern G. Williamsen, Sharon G. Dahlgren, and S. Catherine Larson spoke on Representational Aspects of Golden Age Drama. The participants in the third session, on the editing of the comedia texts, were A. Julián Valbuena Briones, Carol Bingham Kirby, Margaret Rich Greer, and Sandra L. Nielsen. Among the special sessions were three devoted to the comedia. Robert ter Horst chaired a program on Theoretical Approaches to the Spanish Comedia, with papers by James F. Burke, Susan L. Fischer, and Edward H. Friedman . Presided by James A. Parr, the program on The Interrelation of Spanish Seventeenth-Century Comedia, Plastic Art, and Music included papers by William R. Blue, David Gitlitz, Matthew D. Stroud, and Robert ter Horst. Focusing on The Comedia as Dramatic Performance , Matthew D. Stroud and Donald Dietz moved from theory to practice; Alva V. Ebersole chaired the session. The Comediantes Banquet was held at the Los Angeles Hilton on December 28. Approximately sixty people attended the luncheon, including Jane Ackerman, John J. Allen, Robert Bacalski, William R. The members of the Executive Committee met during the convention to make nominations for the term beginning in 1984 and to discuss topics for future meetings.
