Abstract

Cada loco con su tema is a clever and funny play which is also an interesting and valuable social document that mirrors and criticizes court society, presenting widely debated social issues of the day in both comic and serious tone. There are hints of self-mockery, references to another well-known writer, and apparent and veiled allusions to other members of the court. It may be viewed as having two levels of interpretation: as a court play full of references to specific people, and as a comedy for a general audience. The combination of comic situations with the presentation of underlying social and moral issues provides both insight into court life and personalities and an entertaining general comedy.
