Abstract

A close reading of many Calderonian sacramental plays and an investigation into the art of the sixteenth and seventeenth century Counter-Reformation strongly support the idea that Calderón relied heavily upon the legends and motives present in the religious paintings of the Baroque artists.

The present study will address this thesis with regard to the sacramental play, No hay instante sin milagro.
