About the Contributors Elizabeth Andrew is a writing instructor and spiritual director Uving in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is the author of Swinging on the Garden Gate: A Spiritual Memoir (Skinner House Books, 2000) and has pubUshed essays and short memoirs in both religious and Uteraryjournals. She teaches memoir , essay, and journal writing at the Loft Literary Center. Jocelyn Bartkevicius teaches creative writing at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, where she is nonfiction editor of The Florida Review. Her essays have appeared in suchjournals as The Hudson Review, Iowa Woman, and The Missouri Review (as the essay award winner) and have been recognized in The BestAmerican Essays. Her essays about Uterary nonfiction have appeared in the anthology The Fourth Genre, and in The Writer's Chronicle, Fourth Genre, and The Florida Review. Elizabeth (Mimi) Danson went to school in England, then moved with her American husband to Princeton, New Jersey. After spending many years as a teacher, she is writing a family memoir, as weU as essays and poems which have been pubUshed in The New Review, US 1 Worksheets, and The Princeton Arts Review. Philip F. Deaver is Writer in Residence at Rollins CoUege, Winter Park, Florida. His book is Silent Retreats, from the University of Georgia Press. Deaver has won the Flannery O'ConnorAward for Short Fiction, an O. Henry Award, and feUowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Bread Loaf. Patricia Foster is the author of All the Lost Girls: Confessions of a Southern Daughter, editor of Minding the Body, Sister to Sister, and co-editor of 77ie Healing Circle. She won the PEN/Jerard Fund Award, a Florida Arts CouncU Award, and has pubUshed essays and stories in many quarterUes. She's currendy an associate professor in the M.F.A. program in nonfiction at the University of Iowa. Dan Gerber is the recipient of the Michigan Author Award and, in 2001, The Mark Twain Award. His poems, stories, and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, The Georgia Review, and Best American Poetry 1999. His most recent book of poems is Trying to Catch the Horses (Michigan State University Press, 1999). In September 2001, Michigan State University Press wfll publish A Second Life:A Collected Nonfiction. Gail Hosking Gilberg is a writer and teacher living in Cambridge this year. Her first book, Snake's Daughter:The Roads in and out ofWar was published by the University of Iowa Press in their Singular Lives Series. Her essays have appeared in newspapers and Uterary journals such as The Chattahoochee Review, Fourth Genre, The South Dakota Review, and The Florida Review. At the moment she is working on a memoir about her mother. Peter Glendinning is a professor in the Department of Art at Michigan State University. He has received numerous awards, including a Michigan Council for the Arts Individual Artist grant. His book, Color Photography: History, Theory, and Darkroom Technique, was pubUshed by Prentice HaU.
