Abstract

In the 1980s, Swedish playwright Lars Norén wrote three apparently realistic autobiographical plays inspired by O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night: Night Is Mother of the Day (1982), Chaos Is Neighbour of God (1983), and Silence (1986). This article focuses mainly on Silence (1986), offering a thematic analysis of the play and discussing the influence of August Strindberg and Eugene O'Neill on its dialogue structure.
