Abstract

This paper explains a method of introducing upper level, preschool-age children to a core basal reading series. The rationale for early development of reading skills and the selection of an appropriate reading series are explored. The major steps in the method include relating pictured events to the child's own experiences as you elicit his/her expressive language. Little media and expense are involved, and the method is compatible with any core basal series.
