Abstract

In the mid 1970s Frederica de Laguna was invited to Yukon Island by the author and some colleagues. They planned to excavate house pits found close to the sites Freddy had investigated when on Yukon Island in the 1930s, and they proposed that Freddy join the crew. She accepted the invitation, returning to the island in 1978, 46 years after her last visit. In addition to doing archaeology, she regaled the crew with stories. Freddy returned to Alaska numerous times after that and visited with the author, her family, and friends. In the process, the evercurious archaeologist/ethnographer became acquainted with the newest inhabitants of Yukon Island and was reunited with individuals associated with her original 1930s work.
